So while the FiST is in rehab (see !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) I've been given a Forte to hold me over. I rent a lot, 167 days last year, for work and usually have really good luck with Kias and Hyundais, but I'm also usually one size up. I'm finding that the Forte has some really squirrely handling and I'm curious if that's just how the car was designed or if it's the result of living the rental life.

So, the car drives fine in traffic and on the highway. It's comfortably smooth and damped about how I'd expect. The issue comes when pushing in a corner over a road imperfection the front end tracks well but the rear gets this nasty little oscillating wobble. It's really bad on ramps where there are a number of joints, the rear never resettles and just does a butt shimmy for the whole ramp. It's almost as if the front and rear suspensions were tuned for two totally different cars. It doesn't affect traction at all, it's just disconcerting.
Is this just indicative of the design or is the Forte just showing signs of its abused life?
Also, the steering box is way too slow...I have to hand over hand in my parking garage and that is obnoxious. Further, the e-brake has too long of travel and is difficult to engage with authority.

Probably just worn out rental car parts.
The result of too much hoonage.

I have heard the rear multi link on the elantra/forte has a slight shift feeling if it hits a bump during a corner. My elantra coupe with the revised stronger V torsion rear suspension also has this problem where it ll feel like my rear end oversteers for a split second on a bump. It doesnt seem to actually lose traction though. And its never a wobble. Just a feeling of an instant shift in track.

I've had an Elantra a couple times and don't recall it having this behavior. They're platform mates?

Yes Im pretty sure they are. Unless the Forte uses the elantra coupe suspension isntead of the softer sedan suspension. Maybe only the coupes v torsion has the issue and the forte uses the same rear suspension.
